The Tulsa Audubon Society and Friends of the Oxley Nature Center on Saturday, Dec. 17, will participate in the 117th National Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count, the nation’s longest-running citizen scientist bird project.
For more than 100 years, the data collected by Christmas Bird Count participants has provided a wealth of information to researchers interested in the long-term study of early winter bird populations across North America. More than 200 peer-reviewed articles have resulted from Christmas Bird Count data analysis.
To support the bird count, meet at 8 a.m. on Dec. 17 at the southeast end of the Tulsa Zoo parking lot. Bring a lunch and something to drink, an dress accordingly for weather conditions. Bring binoculars and scopes if you have them. Participants will break for lunch at noon at Oxley.
