Boeseman’s Rainbowfish

Melanotaenia boesemani

The brightly colored males of this species have a blue or purple front and a red or yellow back. The females, being less bright, have a green or yellow top with a lighter color underneath. Increased collection for the pet trade as well as highly variable water levels has made these fish an endangered species.
