July 29 is Global Tiger Day!
The Tulsa Zoo is home to four Malayan tigers and it is estimated that only 250 – 340 Malayan tigers remain in the wild. This indicates that the Malayan tiger is in a critical time, and the species is barely avoiding extinction. Our Malayan tigers are ambassadors for their species as the population of their wild counterparts continues to decline due to poaching and habitat loss.
Next year, our tigers will move into their new home, Lost Kingdom: Helmerich Tiger Exhibit, which is part of the Lost Kingdom exhibit complex. Click here to learn more about this exciting new exhibit. Click here to learn about the effort to save wild tigers.
