The Tulsa Zoo is celebrating the first birthday of three critically endangered Malayan tiger cubs, Henry, Leon and Ava. Media and zoo guests are invited to join us at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug 8, at the tiger exhibit. The tiger cub trio will receive special enrichment, including individual ice cakes.
The cubs’ birth was in conjunction with the SSP, or the Species Survival Plan ®, which manages species in Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoos across the nation. Native to the Malay Peninsula, it is estimated that only 250 to 340 Malayan tigers remain in the wild.
The Tulsa Zoo recently broke ground on a new tiger exhibit, Lost Kingdom: Helmerich Tiger Exhibit, which is part of the Lost Kingdom exhibit complex. The Helmerich Trust made a contribution as the lead gift for the new tiger exhibit, and they also chose the cubs’ names. Slated to open in 2017, Lost Kingdom will feature an immersive, naturalistic habitat for the tigers, allowing guests to see these critically endangered animals up-close. As a reminder, the Tulsa Zoo will open at 8 a.m. each day during August. Additionally, guests who arrive before 9 a.m. will receive $2 off the Zoorassic Combo. This offer includes unlimited admission to Zoorassic Park 2, unlimited train rides and unlimited carousel for little ones. Learn more at www.tulsazoo.org/roar
