TULSA, Okla. (May 14, 2018) – For one night only, the Tulsa Zoo’s feature presentation, WALTZ on the Wild Side, returns for an evening in old Hollywood style from 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday, June 15.
During the zoo’s 90th, or diamond anniversary, guests 21-and-above will mingle among endangered Malayan tigers, snow leopards and Chinese alligators, knowing their supporting role makes exhibits like Lost Kingdom possible.
Zoo guests are invited to don their best safari black tie-optional or Hollywood glam apparel as the Tulsa Zoo rolls out the red carpet for an evening of local cuisine, cocktails and unique animal encounters.
Guests will embark on a culinary adventure and enjoy samples of signature dishes from more than 40 of the area’s finest restaurants beside habitats for ambassadors of some of Asia’s rarest species. Inside the Lost Kingdom exhibit complex, attendees will discover a cocktail tailored to their taste as well as other libations, including premium beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
To beat the heat during the evening, cooling stations and fans will be placed around the gala. Guests can dance on an air-conditioned dance floor while they enjoy live music from Professor D.
For the past 28 years, these exceptional WALTZ evenings have generated millions of dollars for many exhibits zoo guests know and love, including the Helmerich Sea Lion Cove, the Mary K. Chapman Rhino Reserve and the Lost Kingdom exhibit complex.
“When I walk around the zoo and see WALTZ on the Wild Side plaques, showing how this fundraising event makes new exhibits possible, it fills my heart with joy,” said Special Events Manager Sarah Bowen. “The zoo offers a spectacular setting with great food, drinks and lively entertainment. It’s a big party that is making a big difference, helping build a bigger, better zoo.”
Standing for “We All Love the Tulsa Zoo,” WALTZ on the Wild Side will benefit the zoo’s capital campaign, Building Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, which launched in 2012. Building Beyond supports the zoo’s 20-year master plan. In 2017, WALTZ raised more than $250,000 to build a bigger, better zoo.
VIP tickets are available for individuals, offering exclusive access to two air-conditioned VIP areas serving premium cocktails. Experience live music by Jason Swanson inside the George Kaiser Family Foundations Rajan’s VIP-only section.
WALTZ on the Wild Side is a 21-and-up event. Individual tickets are $175 for Tulsa Zoo members and $200 for not-yet-members. Individual VIP tickets are $350. Sponsorships are available, starting at $3,000. Visit waltzonthewildside.org or call (918) 669-6614 for more information.
Please note: The Zoo will be closed to the public on Friday, June 15, to accommodate setup.
