Tulsa Zoo is starting a new learning program in 2023 – zoo school. The programming, which is aligned with Oklahoma state teaching standards, connects children in kindergarten through fifth grade with nature and inspires curious discovery of wild places around the world.
“Zoo school was first offered during COVID-19 as a virtual education option,” said Tulsa Zoo Education Manager – Reserved Programs Chris Young. “The program was a favorite among home-schooled families, so we felt it was important to bring it back permanently as an additional tool for the zoo to teach children about nature.”
Tulsa Zoo is offering spring sessions in both April and May featuring a deep dive into Habitats of the World. April sessions will feature desert habitats and May sessions will feature ocean habitats.
Each zoo school session is a three-hour experience, which includes classroom learning, an educational activity, an adventure in the zoo and a visit from an education ambassador animal.
