The Tulsa Zoo will reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14. The zoo closed on Monday as a precaution after the Tulsa Police Department received an anonymous call implying a threat by an individual against the zoo.
Police Maj. Travis Yates, Gilcrease Division Commander, reports the TPD has found no evidence of a credible threat, and says the public has no reason to be concerned. The TPD will continue to investigate the matter; no additional details are available at this time.
Tulsa Zoo spokeswoman Ellen Averill says, “The zoo takes all threats seriously. We will continue to work cooperatively with the Tulsa Police Department to ensure the zoo remains a safe environment. As part of our commitment to the safety of our staff, our guests and our animals, the zoo is implementing additional security measures, including increasing the number of security personnel on grounds.”
