We are Udderly Excited to Announce It’s a Boy!
Friday, Feb. 10, 2017

TULSA, Okla. (Feb. 10, 2017) —The Tulsa Zoo is ecstatic to announce the gender of our Dexter calf- it’s a boy! Our bull calf was born on January 30, 2017 to mama Red Tulip. Our animal care staff gave mom and baby plenty of time to bond before determining the gender, so it was a couple of days before we found out that he was a him! Visit mama and baby in the Children’s Zoo section of the Tulsa Zoo.

Dexter cattle are native to the southern part of Ireland. They are not miniature cattle; they were bred as a small hearty bovine that would freely roam the shelter-less mountains of their native land. The Dexter breed is know for their docile temperament and the cows are considered exceptionally good mothers.
