TULSA, Okla. (July 26, 2017) – So, where is the Red Panda? Red pandas are cold-weather animals while binturongs are hot-weather animals. In an effort to ensure that our exhibit works for both species, as well as our guests, we decided to make this a shared exhibit.
During the cool/cold months, the red pandas will be in the exhibit. The binturongs will be in the exhibit during the warm/hot months.
Where do they go when they are not on exhibit? They have another home in the zoo that is off-exhibit. It is climate-controlled especially for their needs.
Are there set dates for when they will switch? Oklahoma weather is unpredictable, so we are unable to set firm dates. Please check our website in the fall and spring for updates.
Never before has a zoo — to our knowledge — tried this set-up. We will be sharing our success, and lessons learned, with other Association of Zoo and Aquariums (AZA) partners. One more way the Tulsa Zoo is becoming bigger, better.
