TULSA, Okla. (Aug. 31, 2017) – Tulsa Zoo Veterinary staff released a native Barn Owl on Thursday, Aug. 24, brought to the Zoo in July.
Found malnourished and weak, the wildlife rehab owl did not have any significant injuries. Vet staff gave him fluids and medications for a systemic infection. Supportive care included all the mice he could eat! He gained weight, becoming stronger, before being ready for release. At release, the barn owl had almost doubled his intake weight!
According to vet staff the wildlife rehab barn owl flew off very well. He landed in a tree near the release spot, before disappearing out of sight.
