White-headed Buffalo Weaver

Dinemellia dinemelli

They are often found near herds of cape buffalo, hunting insects the buffalo stir up. At nine inches, this is a very large “finch”. Unlike most of the other weaverbird species, this species forms breeding pairs with both sexes constructing nests from twigs. Several pairs will build basketball-sized nests in the same tree.
