Giant Leaf-tailed Gecko

Uroplatus fimbriatus

Range

  • Madagascar

Habitat

  • Forests

Diet

  • Roaches
  • Crickets
  • Worms

Using their “cryptic coloration” (camouflage) and fringed skin, these geckos spend the day hiding in plain sight on trees before becoming active at night to hunt for insects.

If their camouflage does not work, these geckos can defend themselves by gaping their mouths, posturing with their large tails and even making a high-pitched squealing sound.
