Scarlet macaws choose only one mate for their entire lives.

While they are seen flying in flocks, this monogamous bond remains intact. They will reproduce every two years on average, and the young will stay with the parents for most of those two years. Poaching for the animal trade and deforestation is threatening the species by reducing their range and numbers.
